Sometimes I print out sketch sheets with templates of blank tee-shirts on them. But after awhile, I've drifted back to just sketching ideas period. I like to explore and concept graphics first, then venture into different directions of composition on a shirt. About 25% of the time this will cause the design to change, and the process will repeat.
My buddy Ryan sent over this link of a sketchbook shaped like a Tee-shirt. I think this would actually help, because you can see how the front and back would react to each other as a true mockup of the piece.
Interesting!
