The Pharcyde changed the game of Hip Hop and continues to inspire the music we hear today. On May 23rd, Delicious Vinyl gathered the former members of the legendary group for a Special 20 year Anniversary Reunion. And a reunion it was. Fatlip, Slim Kid Tre, J-Sw!ft, LA Jay and even Big Boi were all on stage. Although the stage was packed, there were still members missing. The official members of The Pharcyde; Booty Brown and Uncle Imani were absent and so was their support for such a show. According to a letter posted by the group on Facebook, they refused to participate in a show that WASN'T free. That didn't stop the former members from putting on a legendary performance.
J-Sw!ft surprised everyone with the Bizarre Ride interludes that he played live on the keys. The live interludes brought the performance to life. He took a step further by inhaling helium from balloons to spit verses in place of the absent members. His high pitched vocals brought that early Pharcyde vibe right back. Stage props, costume changes, dancing, balloons and soap bubbles were all used to add another dimension to the show. They stuck to the formula that made Bizarre Ride such a classic. They just got up and there and had fun. 20 years later, these guys are performing it with the same energy and more!
We recently had a chance to kick it in the studio with the Stereotypes. The production company (comprised of Jon Yip, Jeremy Reeves and Ray Romulus) produced several hit tracks for an A-List of artists. Their tracks have been used by popular acts like Usher, Ne-Yo, Christina Aguilera, Justin Beiber and most notably...Far East Movement. The Bloodbath Crew was kindly invited to their Century City Studio to catch up, build and listen to some of their new joints.
As soon as we walked in, we noticed all the different plaques on the walls. You know we had to catch a flick of their Far East Movement's "Like A G6" plaque. That was mandatory! Of course there were others and from the looks of things...plenty more to come. Keep an ear out for these guys. They show no signs of slowing down!
In fact, the Stereotypes have recently been making a splash under an alter ego known as JON MXCRO (Pronounced John Macenroe.) Make sure you check them out!
